La Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi Cayapas tiene una superficie de 204.420 hectáreas y fue creada el 24 de septiembre 1968 con el Registro Oficial 17-A1468.
La Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi Cayapas queda en las provincias de Imbabura y Esmeraldas.
Uno de los atractivos es la Laguna Cuycocha cerca de Cotacachi. Cuycocha es una laguna, que se formó después de una erupción del volcán, más o menos 3.000 años atras, colapsando el cráter, formando una laguna con dos islas.
Se puede realizar viajes con lancha desde un sitio hermoso con restaurante y atención turística.
